MIS have been involved in "Japan-ASEAN student conference" since 2018 for three purposes:

1. To encourage the youth leaders of Japan and ASEAN to understand each other and build a better condition for future cooperation between the two.

2. To create an action plan to tackle the global social problems through organizing a student-led conference and carry out the plan.

3. To contribute to educating good youth leaders who can look over the whole world and the necessary steps to better world.

Since 2017, we have been in discussion with MOFA Japan and other organization concerned to make this conference even much better.

Introduction of the each division's topik
Urban Development Division

In Southeast Asia, the rapid increase in urban population is causing a variety of urban problems.

The Urban Development Division will consider urban issues in Southeast Asia from the following three perspectives and consider what kind of urban development is required.

(1) Problems related to the convenience of daily life, such as inadequate transportation networks and communication environments.

(2) Issues related to the safety of daily life, such as inadequate public safety as typified by slums.

(3) Problems related to the health of people’s lives, centering on inadequate urban sanitation, such as water supply, sewerage, waste disposal, and provision of medical and welfare services.

These problems are diverse, but at the heart of them is the fact that infrastructure development has not kept pace with the concentration of population in cities. In the lectures within the conference, participants will learn about the diverse issues facing cities from multiple perspectives to comprehensively consider future urban infrastructure to solve these problems. In the workshops, we will also discuss and examine the content learned in the lectures in order to seek specific outputs to solve a wide range of urban problems.

Agriculture Division

We will work on the themes of "sustainable agriculture with consideration for the global environment" and "protection of environmentally conscious farmers"! We will discuss the possibility of working with local farmers in Thailand to commercialize eco-friendly chocolates and establish a supply chain with Japan as the market, with a view to presenting concrete outputs.

The Internet Division

The Internet, which is closely linked to our lives, has brought about various harmful effects at the same time as the benefits of connecting the whole world. We take up four issues related to the Internet.

(1) Issues related to the reliability of information flooding the Internet, which have become apparent through fake news, etc.

(2) Adverse effects on the human body and mind due to constant contact with the Internet and SNS

(3) Scams that are becoming more sophisticated on the Internet and the damage continues to expand

(4) Problems in how personal information and logs are handled between major IT companies and individuals

By taking up these problems and analyzing their current status and causes, we seek ways to better interact with the Internet. We will also discuss near-future information technologies such as the Metaverse and 6G, and how they will change the shape of society.

Tourism Division

We will discuss “Sustainable Tourism” in Japan and ASEAN countries at the ASEAN-Japan Student Conference.

Southeast Asian countries are experiencing rapid growth, and the number of foreign tourists is expected to increase as domestic development progresses. At the same time, however, new problems have begun to emerge, such as the destruction of the environment due to the profit-oriented development of tourism.
Similarly in Japan, tourism is expected to become a new core industry and a driving force for further economic growth in Japan. However, Japan’s tourism industry is also facing various problems, such as the uneven distribution of travel destinations for foreign visitors to Japan, the lagging development of regional areas, and the destruction of nature caused by overtourism.
Japan and ASEAN countries need to reflect on the current situation and challenges of their own tourism industry and aim for further development and growth of the tourism industry in a sustainable manner.

We hope that this conference will provide an opportunity to share the problems and issues in each country, as well as the efforts and measures taken by each country, and to work together to solve the problems of the tourism industry in ASEAN and Japan.

Lavor Division

We will discuss issues common to ASEAN countries in the labor market based on historical and cultural backgrounds. Specifically, our goal is to understand gender issues in the labor environment in Southeast Asia, pick up on the problems, and formulate and present solutions.

We are working to exchange opinions among the members on international issues that can be found in Southeast Asian countries today, so that we can output our work from an objective standpoint.
